As a young self taught musician, 19 year old Josh Maynard from Cowra Nsw is a passionate unique folk artist.
Josh was always interested in music starting out on drums at the age of 5 and picking up his first guitar at 10. It was not until 2013 that 14 year old Josh Maynard decided that he was ready for his first public performance which was in the 2013 Cowra Home Grown music competition. Josh took out 1st place with his solo performance.
Josh then went on to place either 1st, 2nd or 3rd in 10 following competitions. Some of these included 1st in the 2013 Grenfell, Henry Lawson Folk Festival, 2nd in the 2013 M&M's Battle of the Voices, 2nd in the Parkes Country Music Festival Walk Up Talent Quest and into the Finals of the Australian Junior Entertainers in Sydney with a Top 10 place.
In 2014 Josh became the Australian National Busking Champion from which he had much air play on the ABC Radio. Later that year Josh Released his first album "Escape From Reality" which has been well received.
Josh is a passionate young lyricists in the making being an avid listener and learner from artists like Bob Dylan, James Taylor and his favourite of all time Shane Howard. These artists have all contributed to the full bodied dynamic sound that is Josh Maynard. A sound that is different a sound that is beyond his years
Recently Josh turned up at the 2016 Gulgong Folk Festival and a last minute decision saw him enter the 2016 Gulong Instrumental Guitar Competition. Never playing instrumental before this was new ground for Josh. To his surprise he won the competition and the highly acclaimed prize of a 1 only Custom Gerard Gilet Baystate Guitar.
Josh Maynard is a fresh new artists who has set out on a journey to help develop our own Australian Folk scene.
